What is Neuropathy?
The basic definition of neuropathy is “a disease or abnormality of the nervous system.” In other words, neuropathy refers to any issues that cause damage to the nervous system. Examples include Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, herniated discs or even diabetes, which affect nerves from all different regions of the body, ranging from the small nerves of the eyes, heart and digestive system, to the nerves of the hands, feet, legs and brain.
Some neuropathies may occur as a sudden onset of pain, tingling or numbness, while other conditions develop gradually over the years. Each patient will describe their pain in their own individual language of “pain.” This can easily confuse a doctor who isn’t trained in how to recognize and treat neuropathic conditions. This means that the patient continues to suffer, going from doctor to doctor, who will prescribe them increasingly stronger doses of pills until they are either completely drugged up and out of it, or lost in their own world of suffering.

How Chiropractic Can Help with Neuropathy
When it comes to treating neuropathy, extensive studies have shown that Chiropractic can do far more than just manage your pain. By investigating the underlying causes of nerve damage, we can even eliminate it completely.
There are two types of symptoms with peripheral neuropathy: negative & positive. Negative signs, which come first, are when damage to the nervous system brings about the LOSS of a particular function such as loss of reflexes, loss of strength, and loss of sensation which occurs with numbness.
Only after some time do the sick and damaged nerves develop the positive signs of neuropathy: tingling, burning, biting, stabbing, and shooting pains. This too is a reaction of the brain and nervous system, unfortunately this overreaction tears apart the fiber of patients’ lives.
Chiropractic looks at the body, ensuring that all systems, including the nervous system itself, are in alignment. This can help to eliminate the condition itself instead of just the pain and numbness that come with it. When the body is being treated in its entirety rather than just the one problem area, symptoms of many problems or conditions can be reduced or resolved all at once.
