How Does Prolotherapy Work?
Short for proliferation therapy, prolotherapy is a nonsurgical way to treat lower back pain, tendinitis, osteoarthritis and some sports injuries. These injections are made up of natural substances such as dextrose and saline, as well as anesthetics to reduce the discomfort of the procedure. Depending on the area of the body and severity of the damaged area, a series of injections may be needed, typically about 3 to 4 weeks apart. The number of required sessions may vary from just one or two to as many as seven or eight. Medication is prescribed post-injection to soothe the mild pain that may occur. We strongly recommend that patients follow a MEAT (Movement, Exercise, Analgesia, and Treatment) routine during the recovery period.
